  RAGA SANGEET

A Raga is a complex musical structure which is creatively developed through a series of specific stages by the performing artistes. This music is largely created spontaneously and no two performances will be exactly the same.

Raga originated in the chanting of the Vedas (sacred texts) thousands of years ago. It's most popular present form is known as Khyal.

It is a rich emotive musical form which through the subtle development of note combinations melodies and rhythms enables the performers to gradually build up an overwhelming impression in the listeners awareness.

'A raga dyes the mind in colour...' Indian musicians believe Raga comes from Nada Brahman the supreme origin and cause of all sounds.
