Frequently asked questions

People always want to know more about LenzGuard self adhesive heavy duty automotive headlight protection film. And who can blame them? Here are some of the questions we have been asked to date.

Question: Why have you chosen these particular sizes?
Answer:    We studied all the cars available for sale in New Zealand. We spent a number of weekends, tape measure in hand, politely asking the car dealers if we could measure their cars' lights as part of a survey. We received some strange looks, but all the dealers were helpful. We entered the information into a database and it quickly became obvious that there were 4 distinct groups.

Question: But do these sizes cover cars overseas?
Answer:    Yes. New Zealand has the most diverse range of cars for sale anywhere in the world. With maybe a very few exceptions, we know we can cater for all sizes.

Question: Some opposition products supply vinyl sheet already cut to size. Why don't LenzGuard come already precut.
Answer:    There is a two fold answer to this. Firstly, we could not hope to have templates for every car. The cost of manufacturing the templates would be expensive which would have to be added into the cost of the product. Secondly, the laminating adhesive is very very sticky. Once the product is applied to the headlight, it is very hard to remove LenzGuard without upsetting the optics of both the vinyl sheet and the adhesive. It is better to apply slightly oversize and trim afterwards.

Question: Why do I have to pay so much for a piece of PVC and some double sided tape?
Answer:    The flexible PVC vinyl is especially imported from Japan. It was carefully chosen. It is optically clear to minimise distortion from the headlights. We have come across samples from other manufacturers that are supposed to be clear, but have 'pooling' and 'pimples' in the vinyl. The vinyl is ultra violet stabilised so that the vinyl does not break down when exposed to the environment. This can cause yellowing and deterioration. The adhesive is a 3M acrylic transfer tape product. It is able to resist many chemicals and to withstand the effects of high temperatures. It is a specialised item, made to order.

Question: Can I reposition the LenzGuard after it's been applied?
Answer:    No.
Pealing off the LenzGuard will probably result in the glue separating from the PVC. Therefore make sure you position the LenzGuard correctly the first time.

Question: Are there any "tricks of the trade" when applying LenzGuard.
Answer:    Make sure that the headlight is very clean and smooth. Then use isopropyl alcohol (available from the chemist) to get the last drop of grease and film off the lens. When heating the LenzGuard, make sure it is pliable before you start to apply it. Before trimming, use masking tape to mark the edge you want to cut. It is much easier to see where you are cutting. Round off any pointed corners with your knife, using either a circle template or the end of a teaspoon. You may notice small "spiders webs" under the glue when first applied. These will disappear over time.

Question: How secure is the secure server order form?
Answer:    The web page you receive from the server, and data that you send back to the server is in encrypted format. You can tell this in 2 ways. The web address starts with "https" ("s" for secure) and the yellow padlock will appear on your browser desktop at the top or bottom right hand side.

Question: Can I pay by any other method?
Answer:    I'm happy to accept cash (major currencies only), Visa, MasterCard or PayPal. Contact me for details.
